Breastfeeding Buddies

The Breastfeeding Buddy service, managed by Claire Foy supported by Tracey Hodgkinson, works alongside Halton Borough Council and Halton and St. Helens Community Health Service to encourage the uptake and continuation of mum’s breastfeeding their babies. The Buddies are all volunteer mums who have successfully breastfed their own babies and are now trained and empowered to offer support to other mums. The Buddies offer support and guidance and help other mums to understand that feelings they are encountering are normal and that they are not alone! Support will vary from mum to mum and our Buddies are trained to lend a listening ear, help access information and advice (healthy eating, breastfeeding groups, activities etc.). Buddies can accompany mums to local breastfeeding workshops and will attend support groups and be accessible to mums.

The Breastfeeding Buddy Programme works in partnership with HBC and each buddy has been trained to a very high standard by Midwife Health Professionals under the La Leche League Programme
