Hello, welcome to the Kings Cross Project's Community Parent Volunteer service. My name is Claire Foy and I am the co-ordinator for the service.
The programme provides a home visiting advice & information support service to families living across Widnes, delivered by a team of locally recruited volunteer parents and carers who can identify with the issues and challenges facing families. All volunteers complete an introductory training course prior to commencing visits and ongoing support, supervision and training is provided.
The Programme targets the following family groups living within Widnes:
- New parents
- Lone parents
- Teenage parents
- Families referred by other agencies with previously identified support needs, such as managing housekeeping, managing money, parenting skills, emotional support
- Families with a child with behavioural dificulties or special needs
Examples of issues covered with families:
- General support
- Behavioural management
- Lack of confidence/self-esteem
- Domestic Violence
- Relationship problems
- Accompanying to groups
- Nutrition & health
- Isolation
- Depression
- Drugs/Alcohol
- Breastfeeding support
Our referral system:
- Please telephone me at the Kings Cross Project. If I am not available please leave your details with the administration team on 0151 420 4905 and I will contact you as soon as possible.
- Once I have received your referral I will make an initial visit to the family in their home and discuss their needs. I will then match the family with one of our Community Parent Volunteers and one-to-one visits will then commence.
- I will liaise with you and other involved agencies as necessary throughout the visiting process (with the consent of the family concerned).
