Kings Cross Kids Clubs (K.C.K.C.) are set up to provide creative play opportunities for children aged 5-12 years in Widnes.
12 years ago research was undertaken by the Kings Cross Project, in the Kingsway and Simms Cross area of Widnes, as part of a community development initiative. From this it was highlighted that there was a need for after school provision in these areas.
The aims and objectives of the Kings Cross Project are:
- That children, young people and families should have access to services that improve the quality of life
- That children and young people should be listened to and their views respected
- That people should have the opportunity to take part in decision making within all organisations that provide services that they use.
After school clubs were set up, and 12 years later we are still going strong.
We now operate 4 after school clubs set up in the most deprived areas of
Widnes and on a weekly basis we work with approx 100 children.
We charge a nominal fee of 50p which covers the cost of a snack for each child.
Most of our clubs run from 3.45pm - 5.30pm (1¾ hours) and the children
undertake various activities, craft, and play activities whilst at the club.

The service we provide is very popular with both children and parents/carers
who attend; this is reflected in feedback we receive:
"My son has enjoyed the club a great deal and looks
forward to every Wednesday."
(Parent from Halebank)
"I benefit from the club knowing that my child
is in safe hands and is enjoying himself as he his not allowed to play outside
in the street."
(Parent from Westbank)
"My children have gained more confidence and lots
and lots of ideas for art and craft. They just love the club!"
(Parent from St Paul's After School Club)
"Both my children have been very professionally
and kindly looked after. They enjoy it socially and get a great deal out of
all the activities on offer. Thank you."
(Parent from Trinity After School Club)
